Two-component silicone rubber is usually made up of two parts a base compound and a curing agent. The base compound consists of polymer chains that have reactive functional groups like vinyl or hydride, which help in cross-linking. On the other hand, the curing agent triggers the crosslinking process when it is mixed with the base compound.
RTV-2 silicone can be cured through two processes: condensation or addition cure. In the condensation cure process, the curing agent reacts with ambient moisture to produce by-products like alcohol or acetic acid, creating crosslinking sites and resulting in a firm elastomeric structure.
